Wolfsburg wobble Bremen

Goals from Thomas Brdaric and Pablo Thiam gave VfL Wolfsburg a shock win against SV Werder Bremen.

Defending Bundesliga champions SV Werder Bremen missed out on the chance to return to top spot when they fell to a surprise home defeat at the hands of VfL Wolfsburg.

Quickfire double
Bremen had kept two clean sheets on their way to winning their opening two games of the season but were unseated in dramatic fashion on Sunday, conceding twice in the first eight minutes of the second half against Wolfsburg. Thomas Brdaric's third of the season was swiftly followed by a Pablo Thiam goal and Miroslav Klose's 71st-minute header - his first goal for Bremen - proved to be no more than a consolation.

Late leveller
In the day's other match, BV Borussia Dortmund seemed assured of victory from their home fixture against Hannover 96 once Tomáš Rosický had put them ahead on the half-hour mark. But in a game dominated by the goalkeepers, 20-year-old Per Mertesacker finally found a way past Dortmund's Guillaume Warmuz, converting a corner in added time.
