Dumitriu makes swift exit

Dumitru Dumitriu has resigned as coach of FC Politehnica AEK Timisoara after just 12 days in charge.

Late start
Dumitriu, who counts AFC Rapid Bucuresti and Greek sides AEK Athens FC and Panionios NFC among his former clubs, replaced Basarab Panduru only two days before the start of the season. But his campaign began with two straight league defeats and, after pressure from home fans during Saturday's 4-1 loss to FC National Bucuresti, he stepped down.

Early leaders
That defeat left Politehnica bottom of the table without a point, in contrast to leading trio National, FC Apulum Alba Iulia and Rapid, who all boast perfect records after two rounds of matches. Rapid beat FC Steaua Bucuresti 2-1 on Sunday evening, with Sabin Ilie scoring twice for the home side, once from the penalty spot.

Danciulescu double
Champions FC Dinamo Bucuresti picked up their first points with a 2-1 home victory against FC Sportul Studentesc. Ionel Danciulescu got both Dinamo goals to add to the pair he struck against MŠK Žilina in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round.

Apulum victory
Meanwhile, Apulum's perfect start continued on Friday with a 2-1 home success against CS Politehnica Iasi who are still without a point, as are FC Otelul Galati who lost by the same scoreline at home to FC Arges Pitesti.
