The 33-year-old defender has joined Nigel Worthington's team on a free transfer after his contract at Italian club FC Internazionale expired last month.
'Coming home'
"I am very pleased to be here," said Helveg, who started his career with Denmark's Odense BK before moving to Udinese Calcio and then AC Milan. "After ten years in Italy it was nice to have the opportunity to come to England. I have chosen the right team. It has a great atmosphere. It felt like I was coming home."
'Knowledge and experience'
Worthington was delighted to land the versatile defender, saying: "To have that level of knowledge and experience at the club is a boost to us all." Helveg played all of Denmark's four games at UEFA EURO 2004™.
