Four-year contract
Barzagli, a member of the Italy side that won the UEFA Under-21 European Championship in June, has signed a four-year contract with the Sicilian team. The 23-year-old played 29 games last season for Chievo, after stepping up to Serie A from Ascoli Calcio last summer.
Four players leaving
To secure Barzagli's services, Palermo paid €1m and loaned Salvatore Masiello, Evans Soligo and Brazilian forward Jeda to Piacenza, while paying a further €2.5m and loaning 27-year-old midfield player Daniele Di Donato to Chievo. Barzagli is Palermo's fourth signing this summer after the arrival of Argentinian striker Ernesto Antonio Farías, Italy midfield player Simone Barone and Italy U21 defender Christian Zaccardo.
