Solitary goal
After eliminating Malmö FF in round one, Cork took another memorable scalp with a 1-0 victory against NEC at Turner's Cross. After the first leg in the Netherlands ended goalless, a 47th-minute goal from Kevin Doyle was enough to secure the Irish part-timers a game in France next weekend.
A winning Thun
Having fallen 3-2 behind in last week's fixture, German club Wolfsburg made a disastrous start in Switzerland as Thun sprinted into a 4-0 first-half lead with goals from Mauro Lustrinelli, Martin Renggli, Antonio Dos Santos and Mario Raimondi. Although Hans Sarpei scored a consolation for a weakened Wolfsburg, Thun won 4-1 to earn a meeting with another Bundesliga side, Hamburger SV.
Extra-time goal
An extra-time goal by Jurij Sukanov clinched a third-round place for FC Dinamo Minsk against FK Sartid. The Belarussian outfit lost the first leg 2-1, but were always on top in Serbia and Montenegro and looked to have won in regulation time with goals from Andrei Razin and Dmitri Lencevic. But Nenad Mirosavljevic converted an 89th-minute penalty for the home team before Sukanov's 94th-minute goal sealed victory for Dinamo.
Not Nice
Esbjerg fB also needed a late goal to beat OGC Nice 2-1 on aggregate. After their surprise 1-0 defeat in Denmark, Nice looked to have regained the advantage thanks to Cedric Varrault's strike in first-half injury time. But with extra time looming, a Jerry Lucena goal silenced the 9,000-strong French crowd as the visitors set up a third-round tie against Lithuania's FK Vetra.
Narrow win
Albanian club KS Vllaznia won 1-0 but couldn't deny Croatia's NK Slaven Koprivnica who prevailed 2-1 on aggregate. Trailing from the first leg, Vllaznia reduced the deficit when Neves Dos Reis Abilio scored after just seven minutes, but a second goal proved elusive.
