Kapsis captured by Bordeaux

Mihalis Kapsis, a UEFA EURO 2004™ winner with Greece, has left AEK Athens FC for FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Mihalis Kapsis, a UEFA EURO 2004™ winner with Greece, has left AEK Athens FC to sign a two-year contract with FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

'I wanted to leave'
The 30-year-old central defender had his AEK contract cancelled last week due to unpaid wages, leaving him a free agent. Kapsis, who played in all six games of Greece's triumphant run in Portugal, said: "I wanted to leave AEK. I know all the teams playing in Ligue 1. I know Greek players like [Akis] Zikos of  [AS] Monaco [FC] and [Stathis] Tavlaridis of Lille [OSC]. Bordeaux made me an interesting offer to play abroad."

AEK exodus
Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud added: "What we knew about him was confirmed during the EURO." Kapsis joins the likes of Theodoros Zagorakis, Vassilios Tsiartas, Vassilios Lakis, Dimitrios Nalitzis and Michalis Kasapis in leaving indebted AEK.
