Valeriy Yaremchenko has been named as the new coach of Ukrainian side FC Metalurh Zaporizhya.
Three-year deal
The coach has joined the Ukrainian Premier League side just days after leaving Russian side SC Rotor Volgograd. Yaremchenko has signed a three-year deal with his new side who finished in eleventh place in their league last season.
Playing days
Yaremchenko made his name as a player at FC Shakhtar Donetsk, making 267 Soviet league appearances and scoring 24 goals for the club. He was a league runner-up with Shakhtar in 1975 and was in the team that finished third in the Soviet top flight in 1978.
Greatest achievements
As a coach, he took charge of Shakhtar, FC Kolos Kirovohrad, FC Kremen Kremenchug as well as the Syrian and Ukrainian national sides. His greatest coaching successes came in Ukraine as he led Shakhtar to a second-placed finish in 1994 and helped them win the Ukrainian Cup in 1997.
