Gill resigns
Dublin manager John Gill resigned following his side's 1-0 FAI Cup defeat against second tier side Monaghan United FC on Friday. Collins, who won the Irish title with Bohemians before embarking on an ill-fated spell at English side Carlisle United AFC, has now been set the task of saving the team from relegation. Collins and his assistant Terry Eviston will take charge of their first game, against Saint Patrick's Athletic FC, on Thursday.
Massive challenge
"This is a massive challenge but I've been there before in situations like this and it's not one that I'll shirk from," said Collins. "In the three clubs I've been at I've been involved in around 160 relegation battles, so this is nothing new to me and to tell you the truth if the club had been mid-table it wouldn't have had the same type of appeal. I like a challenge and I'm delighted to say,'The Rod is back'."
