Short-term contract
The 25-year-old has agreed a deal until the end of the 2004 season after talks with Malmö coach Tom Prahl. He arrives from Brazilian side Coritiba FC.
'Proven goalscorer'
Malmö had been looking for a striker since releasing Igor Sypniewski following a breach of contract. Of Gélson, whose full name is Geraldo do Santos Junior, Prahl said: "We hope he can give us what we were missing during the first part of the season. He's a proven goalscorer and hopefully he'll be able to provide us with goals."
Skoog pressure
Gélson should ease the pressure on Niklas Skoog. The 30-year-old Swedish international registered 22 goals in 23 games last term, more than anyone in the division, but has just one in 12 outings this season. Nevertheless, Malmö are top of the table having lost just one of 13 matches.
