Hamburger SV have clinched the signature of Belgian international defender Daniel Van Buyten in a €3.8m deal from Olympique de Marseille.
Four-year deal
The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Manchester City FC in England, but although City had hoped to make the move permanent, he has opted instead to join Hamburg on a four-year contract. There Van Buyten is set to replace the departing Hamburg captain Nico Hoogma.
'Very convincing'
Van Buyten said: "I really wanted to move to Hamburg. The talks I held with their club officials were very convincing. I believe things are happening at the club and I look forward to contributing to it all." Coach Klaus Toppmöller added: "Daniel was my absolute first-choice player for central defence. I am delighted that he is joining Hamburg."
