Lotina tipped
Lotina, who has signed a one-year deal with Espanyol, was dismissed from his last post at RC Celta de Vigo in January. The 46-year-old made his name as a coach in guiding CA Osasuna to the Primera División in 1999/00.
Renewal expected
Fernández had been expected to renew his contract for an extra year with the Catalan side but talks reached a stalemate over his wage demands.
Relegation avoided
Fernández replaced Javier Clemente in November and guided the team to a dramatic last-ditch escape from relegation thanks to a gripping 2-0 win against Real Murcia CF on the final day of the season. His previous coaching posts included spells at AS Cannes, Athletic Club Bilbao and Paris Saint-Germain FC, with whom he won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996.
