Mexican coach Javier Aguirre has agreed a one-year contract extension with CA Osasuna, ensuring he remains at the Basque club until June 2005.
Revelation
Aguirre had previously refused to commit to a new contract until the Osasuna board guaranteed him a bigger summer transfer budget. The 45-year-old has been a revelation in the Primera División this season, taking Osasuna to eighth place, among a cluster of clubs tussling for a UEFA Cup place.
World Cup coach
Aguirre arrived in Pamplona last year after leading the Mexico national team to the 2002 FIFA World Cup second round. His previous coaching posts have been at CF Atlante and then at CF Pachuca where he won the Mexican league championship in 1999.
