Rhyl take Welsh honours

Members

Rhyl FC secured their first Welsh Premiership title on Sunday courtesy of a 2-0 victory at Porthmadog FC.

Narrow margin
Not even a 5-0 victory for rivals Total Network Solutions FC at Welshpool Town FC could deny Rhyl, who claimed the championship and a place in next season's UEFA Champions League qualifying tournament by a single point.

'Greatest day'
Rhyl manager John Hulse said: "This is the greatest day of my career. We've had to work hard for nine months to reach this point and have been beaten only once all season. That tells its own story." Rhyl, who could yet win another four trophies, will meet TNS in the FAW Welsh Cup final next Sunday.

European qualifiers
Elsewhere, Haverfordwest County AFC won 1-0 at Caernarfon Town FC to take third place and join TNS in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round. Aberystwyth Town FC finished fourth and will face Latvian opposition in the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
