Maribor wrap up the cup

NK Maribor withstood a 4-3 defeat in the Slovenian Cup final second leg to beat NK Dravograd 7-4 on aggregate.

Fifth cup
The victory, Maribor's record fifth cup success, was virtually secure a week ago when they won 4-0 at home. Damir Pekic, Milan Rakic, Peter Franci and Bostjan Zniderl were the scorers, to leave Dravograd praying for a miracle.

Early goals
Matjaz Kek's side prevailed tonight in a thriller, but it was never going to be enough to snatch the trophy and make up for relegation. Maribor scored first on three minutes through Zniderl's penalty, but Mitja Gostencnik soon equalised.

Pekic out
Maribor were without key striker Pekic who is sidelined for five months with a leg injury, and although Alen Mujanovic gave them the half-time lead, the second period was to prove a different story.

Last-gasp winner
Denis Srsa levelled on 62 minutes before Dragan Ljubanic put the underdogs 3-2 ahead. Zniderl scored again a minute from the end, but in the last seconds Damjan Frajdl ensured a win on the night for Dravograd.

Double bid
Maribor will now aim to complete the double on Sunday by wrapping up their eighth straight league title. Having gone a point clear of long-time leaders NK Gorica last week, Maribor will triumph with victory at NK Mura. Gorica, defeated by NK Primorje last Sunday, welcome FC Koper.
