One-year deal
Stoilov, who retired from playing 12 months ago, has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year. Vassilev had only been in charge since October but the club decided against renewing his contract despite the fact he led the team to second place in the Bulgarian Premier League and UEFA Cup qualification.
Youth pledge
The 37-year-old Stoilov said: "My main aim is to restore the proud traditions of the club. We will be going back to our roots and will redevelop and improve our youth ranks. It is a great responsibility to be head coach of Levski and I am looking forward to the challenge. We must play good football and win back the respect of our fans."
Successful career
Stoilov won four league titles and four cups in eight years with Levski. He also enjoyed spells abroad in Turkey and Portugal. His assistants will be former players Tsanko Tsvetanov and Emil Velev while Igor Kulish will remain as goalkeeping coach.
