Gil Vicente pull down Porto

Members

FC Porto's 27-match unbeaten run in the Superliga was finally brought to a halt by Gil Vicente FC.

First loss
Porto, who face Olympique Lyonnais in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, eventually came unstuck away to a side lying tenth in the standings. José Gaspar and Luís Coentrão were the architects of the shock downfall, scoring in the 62nd and 65th minutes respectively.

Sporting chance
Sporting Clube de Portugal ensured maximum reward from the slip-up, dispatching hosts SC Braga 3-2 to move within four points of the leaders. Lourenço da Silva gave the Lisbon team the lead in the eleventh minute, Liédson doubled it and Pedro Barbosa converted a penalty for the third. José Henrique struck twice late on to ensure a frantic finish.

Benfica blow
Third-placed SL Benfica, however, failed to keep up with the top two and could only draw at sixth-placed Rio Ave FC. Tiago levelled five minutes after Evandro had opened the scoring for the home side midway through the second half.

Boavista woe
On Saturday, out-of-sorts Boavista FC suffered their ninth defeat of the campaign, going down at home to goals from CF Estrela da Amadora pair Alex Garcia and Richard Miran in a 2-1 loss. A solitary Nuno Assis goal was enough for visitors Vitória SC to edge out Alverca Futebol SAD 1-0 on Friday.

Other games
Elsewhere, Moreirense saw off visiting CD Nacional 2-1 thanks to strikes from António Tito and Lito, UD Leiria overcame FC Paços de Ferreira by the same result on their travels while SC Beira-Mar and AA Coimbra drew 0-0. The 29th round of fixtures were completed on Monday as first-half goals from Alan Silva and Mitchell van der Gaag gave CS Marítimo a 2-0 win at home to struggling CF Os Belenenses despite the 68th-minute dismissal of Pepe.
