Winter arrival
"This is the saddest moment of my professional life," the Serbian was quoted as saying. Antic replaced the sacked Miguel Ángel Lotina as Celta coach at the end of January, agreeing an initial contract until 30 June. However, the experienced 54-year-old has been unable to guide the club to better fortunes, and Sunday's 2-0 home defeat by Real Zaragoza left Celta second bottom in the Spanish top flight, four points from safety with only eight league games left.
Tough run-in
In addition, Antic also oversaw Celta's UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Arsenal FC – the Premiership leaders running out 5-2 winners over two legs. Celta have a potentially difficult end to the season, with matches against high-flying FC Barcelona and Galician rivals RC Deportivo La Coruña along with games against fellow strugglers RCD Mallorca, RCD Espanyol and Albacete Balompié.
