Anderlecht revel in Liège lapse

Members

RSC Anderlecht raced further ahead in the Belgian First Division after R. Standard de Liège were held.

R. Standard de Liège's draw with KRC Genk allowed RSC Anderlecht to extend their lead at the top of the Belgian First Division to an almost unassailable 18 points following a 2-1 defeat of KSC Lokeren at the weekend.

Zewlakow decider
Jonathan Walasiak equalised for second-placed Standard in a 1-1 draw after Cédric Roussel had put Genk ahead but the visitors failed to find a winner. Polish defender Michal Zewlakow decided matters in another Anderlecht victory, striking in the 79th minute to cancel out Taílson's 66th-minute leveller following an opener from Norwegian midfield player Christian Wilhelmsson.

Solitary goal
On Sunday, Timmy Simons ensured Club Brugge KV went third, popping up in the 84th minute to score the solitary goal in a 1-0 defeat of sixth-placed KAA Gent. R. Excelsior Mouscron, meanwhile, dropped to fourth following a 1-1 draw away from home against Cercle Brugge KSV. Only a late goal from Marcin Zewlakow snatched a share of the spoils after Kristof Arijs had put the home side ahead.

Antwerp havoc
R. Antwerp FC provided the most eventful match of the round, defeating nine-man R. Charleroi SC 3-1 in a battle between the division's basement teams. Charleroi opened the scoring through Adekamni Olufade but Bernt Evens, Patrick Goots and on-loan Manchester United FC striker Arthur Gomez had all replied by the halfway stage of the second period to seal the win. Ibrahim Kargbo and Mustapha Sama were dismissed for the home team.

Two doubles
Nigerian striker Tosin Dosunmu scored twice and David Paas was also on target as KVC Westerlo thrashed KSK Beveren
3-0 while forward Désiré M'bonabucya also collected two goals in K. Sint-Truidense VV's 2-1 defeat of K. Heusden-Zolder. Elsewhere, Jari Niemi and Marco Casto inspired RAEC Mons to a 2-0 defeat of K. Lierse SK.
