Ligament damage
The Turkish Under-21 international tore a calf ligament in training before Sunday's 1-0 defeat at SV Werder Bremen. He was taken to hospital where a scan revealed the extent of the injury and confirmed the need for surgery later this week.
Goals needed
The 21-year-old will hope to return to action before the end of the season. Halil has featured in 17 league games this term without finding the net, although he has largely been used as a substitute. Kaiserslautern are third from bottom in Germany, just two points above last-placed 1. FC Köln.
