Diarra delight for Mali

Mahamadou Diarra scored a last-gasp winner as Mali reached the African Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Olympique Lyonnais midfield player Mahamadou Diarra scored a last-gasp winner as Mali reached the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations with a 2-1 win against Guinea in the quarter-finals.

Goalkeeping error
Mali benefited from a mistake from Guinea goalkeeper Kemoko Camara as, with seconds left of normal time, Diarra's shot somehow evaded Camara, slipping through the goalkeeper's hands to trickle over the line.

Feindouno strikes
FC Girondins de Bordeaux midfield player Pascal Feindouno put Guinea ahead in the 15th minute but Mali's Frédéric Kanouté equalised with his fourth goal of the tournament in first half stoppage-time following a mistake by Schumann Bah, who also plays in France for FC Metz.

Well-worked goal
Mali might have taken the lead as early as the third minute as Dramane Traoré broke clear but shot straight at Camara. Guinea then went ahead with their first real attack as a good move involving Souleymane Youla and former Liverpool FC forward Titi Camara created the chance for Feindouno to place his shot under Mahamadou Sidibe.

Deadly Kanouté
Guinea nearly doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when Camara set up Youla, but the Gençlerbirligi SK player put his shot straight at Sidibe. Mali went straight downfield and equalised with almost the last kick of the half as Kanouté capitalised on Bah's missed header to lob his side level.

Second-half chances
Traoré and Kanouté both missed chances to put Mali in front after the restart, while Fanare and Camara both might have won it for Guinea. The match looked destined for extra time, until Diarra's late intervention.

Tunisia through
In Saturday's second quarter-final, Tunisia's Jaohar Mnari scored the only goal of his side's win against Senegal. The midfield player's 65th-minute winner eliminated the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists, as Mnari guided in a spectacular overhead cross from Gaziantepspor forward Ziad Jaziri.

Remaining quarter-finals
In a match of few chances, the Tunisian defence proved difficult to break down and held firm as Senegal sought for a way back into the match. Tunisia will play either Cameroon or Nigeria – who play in the quarter-finals on Sunday - in the semi-finals on Wednesday, while Algeria and Morocco meet in Sfax for the right to play Mali.
