A goal from Andriy Shevchenko helped AC Milan on their way to a 2-0 win against Bologna FC on Sunday as they opened up a five-point gap at the top of Serie A.
Sweet 16
AS Roma's surprise loss at the hands of Brescia Calcio on Saturday handed Milan the chance to forge clear and Shevchenko broke the deadlock by springing the Bologna offside trap on 19 minutes to nod in his 16th league goal of the season. Milan survived two penalty appeals from the home side before Kaka hit the post at the other end and John Dahl Tomasson sealed the European champions' victory a minute from time with a delicate lob over Gianluca Pagliuca.
Camoranesi volley
Juventus FC climbed level on points with second-placed Roma by virtue of their 1-0 win against AC Chievo Verona. Mauro Camoranesi's volley ten minutes into the game proved to be enough for Marcello Lippi's side, who would have won more comfortably had Marco Di Vaio taken a string of scoring opportunities which fell his way. In only his second game since joining from Parma AC, Adriano scored twice as FC Internazionale chalked up a 4-0 victory in their game against AC Siena. The victory keeps the San Siro side in fourth position, 13 points behind their city rivals.
Chasers held
Inter's victory enabled them to pull away from Parma and S.S. Lazio, with whom they had been level-pegging before the weekend. Parma shared the spoils with winless AC Perugia, who have now drawn eleven of their 19 Serie A matches this season. All four goals came in the first half, with Dario Hubner's early strike for Perugia cancelled out by Alberto Gilardino on 35 minutes and Ze Maria quickly responding to the Domenic Morfeo goal which had temporarily put the visitors ahead.
Udinese joy
Lazio also threw away the lead, Stefano Fiore's tenth-minute strike matched by Fabio Bazzani's eleventh of the season for UC Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico. At the other end of the table, US Lecce climbed above fourth-from-bottom Empoli FC with a 2-0 win at basement club Ancona Calcio. Giovanni Galeone's first game at the helm for Ancona started badly when Ernesto Chevanton put Lecce ahead after just 47 seconds and Cedric Konan doubled the lead on the hour. In the day's only other game, an injury-time free-kick from Vincenzo Iaquinta gave Udinese Calcio a 1-0 win against Modena FC.
