French coach Rolland Courbis has taken charge of Russian Premier-Liga club FC Spartak-Alania Vladikavkaz.
Marseille memories
Courbis has signed a two-year deal with Spartak-Alania, replacing interim coach Bakhva Tedeev. The 50-year-old‘s last club was Al-Wehda of the United Arab Emirates but his most famous spell came when he guided Olympique de Marseille to the 1998/99 UEFA Cup final, where they lost 3-0 to AC Parma, and a second-place domestic finish in the same season.
Vastly experienced
Courbis won three French titles as a player, one with Marseille in 1972 and two with AS Monaco FC in 1978 and 1982. In between, he won the Greek championship with Olympiacos CFP in 1974. He played for FC Sochaux Montbéliard and SC Toulon as well, and also coached the latter club, FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Toulouse FC, RC Lens and AC Ajaccio.
