Simone back in Ligue 1

Veteran Marco Simone has sealed a return to French football by agreeing a six-month contract with OGC Nice.

Dressed for success
The 35-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain FC and AS Monaco FC favourite has not played a senior match for 14 months and will wear the No10 shirt. "It was an important factor in my decision," he said. "I always succeeded with this number."

Léonard link
Simone had been without a club since his contract with Monaco expired at the end of the 2002/03 season. His old team-mate at the Stade Louis II, Philippe Léonard, signed for Nice a few days ago which is thought to have influenced his decision.

Quality addition
"I'm delighted someone of his calibre is joining our team," said Nice coach Gernot Rohr. "He will boost the whole team." Nice are currently seventh in the Ligue 1 table.

Made in Milan
Simone made his name with AC Milan. Between 1989 and 1999, he played 143 games for the club, scoring 49 goals and winning numerous honours, including four league titles. He also won Ligue 1 with Monaco in 2000.
