Article body
Reigning champions FC Porto moved five points clear at the top of the Portuguese SuperLiga with a 2-1 away win at Alverca Futebol SAD on Monday, but the win was overshadowed by an injury to striker Derlei.
Derlei worry
Victory over Alverca lifted Porto's tally to 39 points, five more than second-placed Sporting Clube de Portugal. A shot from inside the box by Brazilian Derlei opened the scoring in the 18th minute for Porto, the only unbeaten team in the league. But the league's 12-goal top scorer was later carried off the pitch on a stretcher after a tackle from Alverca defender Ze Rui.
Doctor comments
Porto doctor Nelson Puga told journalists Derlei had probably torn a ligament in his right knee, and would undergo a thorough examination on Tuesday. The injury could keep him out for some time, Puga added.
Vítor Baía error
An error by goalkeeper Vítor Baía, who let the ball through his legs, allowed striker Manú to equalise in the 27th minute for Alverca, who were reduced to ten men for the last
half-hour after winger José Rui was sent off for two bookable offences.
Maniche winner
Porto, however, clinched their 12th league win this season in the 35th minute when unmarked midfielder Maniche picked up a neat pass from playmaker Deco and shot into the net from close range.
