'I just could not refuse'
The 58-year-old left R. Antwerp FC earlier this year and only signed a deal with Sporting West two weeks ago. However, after overseeing two defeats in two games he has decided to move on. "This was an offer I just could not refuse," he said. "On Sunday I received a definitive yes. I am happy as it was not really enjoyable working in the second division."
Second spell
It is not the first time that Houwaart has worked in Cyprus. In 2000/01 he led Omonia AC to the league title. Other clubs he has coached include KAA Gent, Club Brugge KV and Cercle Brugge KSV. AEL are currently eighth in the 14-team Cypriot top flight.
