Article body
A Marinette Pichon hat-trick inspired France to a thoroughly one-sided 7-1 defeat of Poland in Group 3 of the UEFA European Women's Championship.
Woock opener
Buoyed by their home support in Quimper, France began the match at pace and it was not long before they went ahead. Elodie Woock raced on to Sonia Bompastor’s finely judged long pass to fire in with aplomb.
Tonazzi second
Laëtitia Tonazzi was unfortunate to see her effort bounce back off the crossbar moments later, but her disappointment turned to joy soon after when she finished powerfully in the 14th minute after exchanging passes with Stéphanie Mugneret-Béghé.
Relentless attacking
France were intent on attacking relentlessly and the third goal arrived five minutes before the break when Corinne Diacre headed in Woock’s well-taken corner.
Pichon double
Pichon ended any hope of a comeback by scoring twice soon after the break, first in the 54th minute after good work from Bompastor then four minutes later. The onslaught, however, was far from over and Hoda Lattaf added to the tally by collecting a sixth.
Terrific display
Pichon sealed a terrific display by completing her hat-trick 18 minutes from time before a late consolation goal from Lilianna Gibek gave the Polish something to cheer. France have now collected three consecutive wins and will be confident ahead of their next match against Hungary.
