Swedish champions Djurgårdens IF retained their Allsvenskan title with a 3-2 win at Halmstads BK.

Djurgårdens IF retained their Allsvenskan title with a 3-2 win away to Halmstads BK in their penultimate league match on Sunday.

Unassailable advantage
The victory gave the Swedish champions an unassailable seven-point lead over second-placed Malmö FF at the top of the table. Malmö suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to IFK Göteborg to hand their rivals the title.

Headed opener
Midfield player Andreas Johansson gave Djurgården the lead with a 13th-minute header after good work from Kim Källström. However, the home side were level three minutes later with Patrik Ingelsten left unmarked to equalise following a corner.

Tense finish
Kallström restored the visitors' lead with a long-range strike midway through the first half, before Johansson headed his second of the game from Nicklas Rasck's cross. Ingelsten's second of the game set up a frantic finish, but Djurgården held firm and the final whistle was greeted by a pitch invasion and scenes of celebration from their jubilant supporters.

'The best team'
"We've been the best team over the course of the season," said Djurgården coach Zoran Lukic. "We've stuck to our plan and it has paid off. It feels great, and now we'll be able to focus more on Europe."
