Multescu given rescue mission

Members

Gheorghe Multescu has replaced Florin Marin as coach of Romanian First Division side FC Petrolul Ploiesti.

Immediate goal
Multescu explained that his immediate goal was to ensure Petrolul, currently second bottom in the standings after eight games of the season, avoided relegation. "I want to bring the necessary stability to make sure we don't go down," he said. "First, I need to work with the players to come to terms with the situation here."

Ideal candidate
Former Romanian international Multescu is seen as the ideal candidate for the post, having steered troubled teams away from danger in the past. He guided Astra Ploiesti out of the drop zone in the second half of the 2001/02 season and repeated the feat the following year with FC Politehnica AEK Timisoara.

Turkish sojourn
Multescu coached Samsunspor between 1993 and 1997, and has also had spells with Kayserispor, Adanaspor AS and Gaziantepspor in Turkey.
