Article body
Late substitute
The 26-year-old former Italian Under-21 international had only just returned to first-team action after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain last season. Zanchi came on as an 80th-minute substitute against Lazio and suffered the injury only two minutes later, allowing Lazio's Simone Inzaghi to score the opening goal of the game in the process.
Turin transfer
Zanchi initially joined Bologna on loan from Juventus FC in 2002/03 and has also played for Atalanta BC, AC Chievo Verona, Udinese Calcio, Vicenza Calcio and Hellas-Verona FC in a much-travelled career.
