Gaucho Gomes scored the only goal after 15 minutes to give the Madeira side a third successive victory and leave them two points clear of second-placed Boavista FC. Ricardo Sousa's 54th-minute penalty secured Boavista a 1-0 victory against Vitória Guimarães, who had Flavio Meireles sent off in the incident leading to the spot-kick.
Big three not playing
None of the big three were in action as champions FC Porto face Sporting Clube de Portugal on Tuesday while SL Benfica's match at Clube Académica de Coimbra was postponed until the new stadium in Coimbra is ready.
Nacional hit four
Elsewhere, on Sunday CD Nacional were handsome 4-0 winners at home to CF Estrela da Amadora in Funchal. Bruno Patacas opened the scoring after 15 minutes before two second-half goals from Maio Carlos and a late fourth from Adriano Louzada.
Braga win
Alcaraz Viveros's 41st-minute goal gave SC Beira-Mar a 1-0 win against Alverca Futebol, while 24 hours earlier SC Braga took a 2-0 victory from their visit to Moreirense FC. Paulo Sergio and Jorge Luiz scored the goals although Braga lost Quim Silva to a last-minute red card.
