Article body
France defeated Iceland 2-0 to record a second successive victory in qualifying for the 2005 UEFA European Women's Championship.
Early breakthrough
Against a strong Iceland side in Bonneuil-sur-Marne on Monday, the first half was a tight affair, but the breakthrough arrived five minutes into the second period as a Sonia Bompastor cross was converted by Stéphanie Mugneret-Béghé to give the home side the lead.
Decisive second
The goal gave Elisabeth Loisel's team the momentum to push forward, and 12 minutes later the match was effectively ended as a contest as another Bompastor cross found Laetitia Tonazzi, who headed France into a two-goal lead.
Maximum points
The win, coupled with France's 4-0 victory against Hungary in May, meant that Loisel's side have a maximum six points from two matches, and lie a point behind Group 3 leaders Russia with a game in hand. Iceland dropped to third place with four points from three matches.
