News round-up: Didier Domi returned to England on a day that Nano left FC Barcelona for Madrid.

Permanent deal
Should Domi, who played for Newcastle United FC between 1998 and 2001, impress at Elland Road, Leeds can sign the 25-year-old on a permanent basis for €2.8m. Manager Peter Reid said: "Versatility is a good word when it comes to football and Didier will certainly give us that." Leeds bought another French defender last month, Zoumana Camara from RC Lens.

'Huge asset'
Another France-based player has quit Ligue 1 for the Premiership after Portsmouth FC completed the purchase of AJ Auxerre midfield player Amdy Faye. The Senegalese international appeared in the UEFA Champions League last season and had been linked with a number of English clubs. Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said of the 26-year-old: "He is going to be a huge asset for us."

'Superb supporters'
Like Portsmouth, Club Atlético de Madrid have been busy in the transfer market. The capital club today made their sixth summer signing by snapping up Nano from FC Barcelona on a free transfer. After penning a three-year contract, the 21-year-old midfielder said: "Above all, I have signed for the superb supporters of Atlético. I had other options but this was the most interesting for me."

Pleased to stay
In Israel, Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC have secured the services of Chilean forward Rodrigo Goldberg for another year. Goldberg, who scored nine goals in 39 league appearances as the team clinched the championship last season, said: "I am delighted to stay at Maccabi for another season."

Broken bone
There was disappointing news in the Netherlands for SBV Vitesse, who learned that they will be without their Cameroonian striker Kalle Sone for three months. The 20-year-old broke a bone in his foot during training on Sunday and tests have shown that he will struggle to play again before the end of the year. Vitesse begin their Eredivise campaign on 17 August with the visit of AFC Ajax.
