Turkey round-up: Istanbulspor move ahead

Istanbulspor AS edged Besiktas JK from the summit of the Turkish Superleague on Sunday.

Istanbulspor AS replaced Besiktas JK at the summit of the Turkish Super League on Sunday, defeating Rizespor 3-0 at home.

Bolic double
Bosnia-Herzegovina striker Elvir Bolic - who was sent off in the dying stages - struck twice while Israeli striker Pini Balili added the third in the 51st minute.

Sarioglu opener
Also on Sunday, Galatasaray SK held on to third position by defeating Gençlerbirligi SK 2-1. Sabri Sarioglu's 26th-minute shot took a deflection before going in for the opener. Hakan Sükür doubled the lead almost immediately before the visitors pulled a goal back early in the second half, Deniz Baris punishing a mistake by Colombian goalkeeper Faryd Mondragón.

Straightforward wins
MKE Ankaragücü beat Bursaspor 2-0, Santiago Salcedo scoring twice while Trabzonspor also won 2-0, overcoming last-placed Akçaabat Sebatspor to move sixth thanks to goals from Mehmet Yilmaz and Gökdeniz Karadeniz.

Fener joy
On Saturday, Fenerbahçe SK enjoyed a successful away trip to Diyarbakirspor, winning 2-1. A Hasan Yigit penalty put the home side ahead at the start of the second half but Fener struck back through Tuncay Sanli and Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, the latter clinching victory with a 76th-minute free-kick.

Big win
Malatyaspor posted the biggest win of the weekend, 5-0 against Samsunspor. Fazli Ulusoy scored twice and Atilla Birlik, Celaleddin Koçak and Tomazs Ziarkowski were also on target.

Özer heroics
Hasan Özer was the two-goal hero for Gaziantepspor in their 3-1 defeat of Konyaspor. Tunisian international Ziad Jaziri had given the home team the lead midway through the first half but Sedat Yesilkaya levelled on 40 minutes.

Coach resignation
Adanaspor AS won 4-3 at Elazigspor, a result that provoked the resignation of coach Ümit Turmus. Effa Owona opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute but Volkan Bekiroglu equalised with a powerful drive.

Two for Necati
Necati Ates struck again for the visitors with a penalty and six minutes into the second half Güngör Öztürk’s header made it 3-1. Necati grabbed his second to futher increase the lead before Elazigspor narrowed the deficit through Owona and Sedat Agçay.

Besiktas second
On Friday, Besiktas JK's 3-2 away defeat of Denizlispor was enough to keep them second on goal difference. A Kaan Dobra effort and an own goal by defender Roman Kratochvil gave them a 2-0 lead.

Late nerves
Sergen Yalçin added another early in the second half but the home team produced a scare by scoring twice at the death through Coskun Birdal and Roman Kratochvil.
