Champions FC Porto dropped their first points, leaving Sporting Clube de Portugal and CS Marítimo at the top.

Champions FC Porto dropped their first points of the new SuperLiga season as they were held to a 1-1 draw at newly promoted CF Estrela da Amadora on Sunday to leave Sporting Clube de Portugal and CS Marítimo as the only clubs with maximum points after two games.

Milan meeting
Porto, who meet AC Milan in the UEFA Super Cup on Friday night, took the lead a minute past the hour as new signing Benni McCarthy struck a 35-metre free-kick into the net. However, the home side levelled 14 minutes from time as a clearance from Vítor Baía went straight to Julio Cesar, who lifted the ball over the Porto goalkeeper's head to equalise.

Two for Toñito
Sporting moved top of the standings on goal difference as Spanish midfield player Toñito scored twice in a 4-2 win against CF Os Belenenses on Saturday. Brazilian midfield player Fabio Rochemback put Sporting in front with a 15th-minute penalty, and Toñito doubled the lead a minute before the half-hour. Just a minute later, the away side were back in the match as José Sousa pulled a goal back with a curling shot, and it was 2-2 a minute into the second half when Leonardo Silva equalised.

Rapid response
However, Luis Lourence quickly restored Sporting's lead before Toñito sealed victory on the hour, adding a fourth. Meanwhile, a strike from Dutch defender Mitchell van der Gaag midway through the second half proved enough for Marítimo at FC Alverca on Friday.

Benfica boost
SL Benfica were 2-0 winners at home to Vitória Guimarães, who played the second half with ten men following the dismissal of Guga for a deliberate handball a minute before half-time. Zlatko Zahovic gave Benfica the lead with the resulting penalty and a goal from Miklós Fehér ten minutes before the final whistle confirmed Benfica's victory ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie with S.S Lazio.

Away win
Two goals from Dário helped Clube Académica de Coimbra to a 2-0 away win at UD Leiria, while a 40th-minute penalty from José Barroso enabled SC Braga to defeat CD Nacional 1-0.

Narrow victory
Rui Miguel scored the only goal of the game as FC Paços de Ferreira won at home against Moreirense FC while a Ferreira Rosa goal earned Gil Vicente FC a 1-1 draw at Rio Ave FC. On Monday, Boavista FC travelled to SC Beira-Mar and picked up a 2-0 victory, their first win of the season. Ricardo Sousa opened the scoring after 35 minutes and Ricardo Silva added a second seven minutes later.
