Article body
Estonia claimed their first win in UEFA European Women's Championship Group 6 by beating Kazakhstan 3-2.
Second success
Having previously lost to Belarus and Israel, conceding nine goals on the way, the Estonians recorded their second ever win in official qualifying games. The first one arrived five years' ago, when Lithuania were the victims of a 5-0 drubbing.
Morkovkina mastery
Yet there were early fears of yet another defeat, as Kazakhstan took the lead through forward Mariya Yalova after four minutes at the Raeküla Gümnaasiumi in Pärnu. The home team responded in the best possible fashion with Estonian Player of the Year Anastassia Morkovkina equalising soon after before giving her team the lead two minutes before half-time.
Pajo pitches in
The leading scorer in Estonia, Ave Pajo, added a third seven minutes into the second half before Nina Teterina pulled one back for the visitors, although that proved too little too late for the Kazakhs.
Israel next
The win sees Estonia join Israel and Belarus at the top of qualifying Group 6 on three points, although they have already played two more games than their opponents. Estonia next take on Israel away on 8 May 2004.
