Sweden put emphasis on attack

Prolific strikers Hanna Ljungberg and Victoria Svensson will lead the line for Sweden in the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Youthful exuberance
Sweden coach Marika Domanski-Lyfors has opted for a blend of experience and youthful exuberance in a 21-player squad which will compete in the United States. The defence looks solid, with veteran Kristin Bengtsson, 33, lining up alongside Jane Törnqvist of Djurgården/Älvsjö, two years her junior.

Familiar faces
Fifteen of the players who finished runners-up in the 2001 UEFA European Women's Championship are in the party. Domanski-Lyfors said: "They are all a little bit older and more experienced now. I think this team is even stronger than that one and we have to be at our best because all our opponents in the group stage are very good."

Perugia rumours
Ljungberg and Svensson have both been linked with moves to AC Perugia, a top-flight men's team in Italy. Both, though, are sceptical about the truth behind the rumours and are fully focused on forthcoming World Cup matches against the US - Sweden's first opponents on 21 September - the Korean Republic and Nigeria in Group A.
