'Bitter loss'
Medical tests today confirmed that Böhme ruptured a knee ligament in a friendly match on Saturday and he will now be sidelined for six months. "This is a bitter loss," said Schalke coach Jupp Heynckes. "As well as being a German international, Jörg is a vital player for us. We have to see how we can make up for this loss in the rest of the squad."
Kamphuis casualty
Meanwhile, Dutch international Nils Oude Kamphuis left Schalke's training camp with a groin injury and has been ruled out of the club's UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign.
