Sweden round-up: Malmö beat champions

Still in front
Malmö, the runners-up in 2002, were 2-0 winners at Djurgårdens IF's Stockholms Stadion. Despite the defeat on Monday, the champions are still leading the way with 22 points, four more than fifth-placed Malmö.

Skoog on form
The game got off to a fast start with Niklas Skoog putting Malmö in front after just seven minutes as he capitalised on a slow Djurgården defence. The early advantage allowed Malmö FF to dictate the match and, by man-marking Kim Källström and Andreas Johansson, they were able to play a compact defensive game.

Decisive goal
In the second half, Djurgården tried to push forward but were undone again when man of the match Skoog found Peter Ijeh in the 56th minute. The Nigerian striker needed no invitation to blast the ball past the isolated Andreas Isaksson in the Djurgården goal.

Woe for Enköping
The round had actually started last Wednesday when Örgryte IS beat Östers IF 2-1, after goals from Valter Tomaz Jr and Paulhinho Guará cancelled out an effort from Alexander Steens. Then on Sunday, Örebro SK recovered from their 4-0 defeat by IFK Göteborg to beat Enköpings SK 4-2. Örebro are now just three points behind the leaders in fourth place while Enköping remain rooted to the bottom with just five points.

Berggren double
The following day, third-placed AIK Solna travelled to Borås to play IF Elfsborg, who were unbeaten in five games, and left having been beaten 2-0. Despite AIK having much of the possession, the pacey Elfsborg side soon proved to hard to handle. Elfsborg striker Hans Berggren's spectacular first-half double, in the 18th and 32nd minutes, proved more than enough for victory and lifted his team to seventh.

Svenning off
Elsewhere, Göteborg were looking to build on that win against Örebro against GIF Sundsvall but had to settle for a 1-1 home draw. Tommy Bergersen put the visitors in front on 55 minutes before Patric Andersson finally equalised 20 minutes later. Sundsvall had a nervous finish after the dismissal of Öyvind Svenning for a second bookable offence, but were able to secure a point. Monday's final match saw an intense south Swedish derby between Helsingborgs IF and Landskrona BoIS that finished in a 2-2 draw.

Bakircioglü back
Finally, on Wednesday, Hammarby IF visited Halmstads BK with Kennedy Bakircioglü back in the starting lineup after his recovery from a broken toe. Hammarby's Karl Oskar Fjörtoft gave the Stockholm side the lead after 39 minutes but the second half was all about the home side. Polish ace Igor Sypniewski scored his seventh of the season in the 61st minute before Robert Andersson put Halmstad in the lead eight minutes later. With time running out, Sypniewski scored again to stun the second-placed team.
