Iceland round-up: Grindavík show fighting spirit

Members

Grindavík bounced back from recent disappointments to beat champions KR Reykjavík 2-1 away from home.

Better of the play
Oli Stefan Floventsson gave Grindavík a 28th-minute lead, but despite having the better of the play the visitors had to wait until the 83rd minute to double their advantage through Alfred Johannsson. Sigurdur Ragnar Eyjolfsson then pulled a goal back for KR but it was too little too late.

Leaders held
Meanwhile, Fylkir drew 1-1 at ÍA Akranes to stay two points clear at the top. The first goal did not arrive until the 78th minute when Arnar Thor Ulfarsson scored with a header. Within a minute, though, Akranes had equalised, Reynir Leosson feeding Gretar Rafn Steinsson whose confident finish ensured honours were even.

First win for Fram
Newcomers Thróttur Reykjavik continued their promising start with a 2-0 home success against ÍBV Vestmannæyjar, with both goals coming from Björgolfur Takefusa. They are now up to second place. Meanwhile, Fram Reykjavík won their first game of the season, 3-2 at FH Hafnarfjördur, although they stay bottom of the ten-team division.

Valur end losing streak
Valur Reykjavík ended a four-game losing streak as they came away from KA Akureyri with a 2-1 triumph. Second-half goals from brothers Johann and Sigurbjörn Hreidarsson capped a fine comeback by the visitors.
