Serbia and Montenegro international Dejan Stefanovic has signed a three-year contract with Premiership newcomers Portsmouth FC.
Vitesse spell
The 29-year-old defender has joined for €2.65m from Dutch side SBV Vitesse. Stefanovic had been with Vitesse for four years and was club captain last season.
'A strong player'
"We have got a strong player for the left side of our defence, but Stefanovic can also play in central defence," said Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp. "He has great technique and tackling ability and he is fantastic in the air."
English wish
The player himself added: "Rangers FC [of Scotland] also wanted me, but I had a wish to make a new career in England. I want to finish my career in England." Stefanovic has played in England before for Sheffield Wednesday FC from 1995 until 1999. He started his career with FK Crvena Zvezda.
