Luis Aragonés has reversed his decision to resign as coach of Club Atlético de Madrid and will see out the remaining year of his contract.
Friday meeting
Aragonés was set to quit when the Primera División season finishes next weekend but a meeting with new Atlético president Enrique Cerezo, who replaced Jesús Gil last month, changed his mind.
Gil departure
"We sat down together and he has confirmed he wants to stay," Cerezo said. "We never officially talked about his situation as it was him who said he was moving on - but he has agreed to remain on the same terms."
Illustrious career
Atlético are presently in the middle reaches of the Primera División after Aragonés guided them back into the top flight last season. The 64-year-old started as coach at Atlético in 1974 before joining Real Betis Balompié six years later. He has also coached FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol, Sevilla FC, Valencia CF, Real Oviedo and RCD Mallorca.
