Modena move for Malesani

Members

Modena FC have appointed Alberto Malesani, formerly of AC Fiorentina and Parma AC, as their new coach.

Official unveiling
Malesani is expected to sign a one-year contract tomorrow morning when he is officially unveiled. He will replace De Biasi who left in search of a new challenge after three-and-a-half years at the Alberto Braglia stadium.

Staying up
The 49-year-old Malesani, who was sacked by Parma in 2000, parted company with Hellas-Verona FC last week after helping his hometown club avoid a second successive relegation following demotion from Serie A in 2002. He made his name at the city's other club, AC Chievo Verona, whom he led to promotion from Serie C1 to Serie B in 1993.

Cup success
Having established Chievo as a mid-table side, Malesani moved to AC Fiorentina in 1997 to succeed Claudio Ranieri. He stayed in Florence for a season before making the short trip north to Parma, where he won the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup, beating Olympique de Marseille 3-0 in the Moscow final, in his first full campaign.
