'Doing the business'
Arruabarrena, 27, agreed to extend his original contract by two seasons after talks with club officials. "The fact they offered me a new deal shows that I have been doing the business on the pitch, although it is also true that I have settled into the club off the pitch as well," he said.
'Very important player'
"I hadn't been expecting it, but I am happy that the club still have faith in me because I am enjoying it here," added Arruabarrena. The left-back has started 32 games for mid-table Villarreal this season, and club director José Manuel Llaneza said: "It was very important to sort out a new contract for him. He is a very important player for the club."
International class
A former Argentinian international, Arruabarrena could be granted Spanish citizenship this summer. He previously played for CA Boca Juniors in his native Buenos Aires.
