Denmark round-up: Brøndby make most of FCK slip

Brøndby IF moved to the Superliga summit with only two games left after a 4-0 win against Odense BK.

Danish champions Brøndby IF moved back to the Superliga summit with only two games remaining after a 4-0 home win against Odense BK.

Birthday delight
Brøndby made the most of title rivals FC København's goalless draw at Esbjerg fB, celebrating coach Michael Laudrup's 39th birthday in style in front of an enthusiastic crowd of more than 18,000 inside the Brøndby stadium. Peter Foldgast opened the scoring after 16 minutes, firing in from close range past his future team-mate, OB keeper Karim Zaza, who will be joining Brøndby next season.

Foldgast double
Swedish international Mattais Jonsson make it 2-0 on the half-hour mark with a clever header from former OB striker Kasper Dalgas's cross. Foldgast headed his second of the night three minutes after the interval, before Dalgas chipped over Zaza to complete the scoring 18 minutes from full time.

FCK slip
FCK were one point ahead of Brøndby before going to West Jutland to face third-placed Esbjerg. However, it was a night to forget for the visitors with Faroe Island international Todi Jónsson, who had extended his contract hours before kick-off, wasting numerous chances. With Brøndby now edging in front, the title now looks certain to be decided when they meet FCK in Brøndby.

Midtjylland held
FC Midtjylland kept their European hopes alive despite dropping two points in a 1-1 home draw against relegation-threatened AGF Århus, who almost definitely secured a further season in the Superliga. South African striker Josta Dladla opened the scoring for the visitors after 28 minutes, before defender Søren Skriver equalised on 64 minutes. AGF's Mikkel Bo Jensen was sent off for a second booking two minutes from time.

Farum hopes dented
Farum's ambitions of European competition next season were dented with a surprise 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Aalborg BK, who saved themselves from relegation in a game where all four goals were scored in the last 21 minutes. At the other end of the table, Silkeborg IF look certain to join Køge BK in the first division next season following a 3-2 home defeat against Viborg FF. Silkeborg now have to win their final two matches, while AGF must lose theirs, if the Central Jutland side are to avoid relegation.

AB safe
Elsewhere, Akademisk Boldklub preserved their top-flight status with a 3-2 away win over already-relegated Køge. Mohammad Zidan scored twice and Sammy Youssouf once for AB, while Brian Gellert and Soren Nielsen were on target for the home side.
