Portugal round-up: Porto sign off in style

Champions FC Porto confirmed their dominance of the SuperLiga with a 2-0 victory over Sporting Clube de Portugal on the final day of the season.

Third trophy
The UEFA winners maintained their superb domestic form against their rivals, taking the lead through Hélder Postiga's first-half strike. Contreras handed the victory to Porto when he put through his own net on 77 minutes, capping a poor season for Sporting. Their third-placed finish only gives them access to the UEFA Cup but finishing 27 points behind Porto will be a more hurtful factor. Porto will now look to win their third trophy of the season when they face UD Leiria in the Portuguese Cup final 15 June.

Benfica second
SL Benfica will enter the UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round after securing second spot with a 4-0 victory over Vitória Guimarães. Miklos Fehér was the hero, scoring a superb hat-trick, while Tiago, one of this season's most promising players, scored the other goal for the Lisbon side.

UEFA Cup berth
Leiria, already assured of a place in the UEFA CUP due to their place in the cup final, confirmed their fifth place after defeating Gil Vicente FC 4-2. Silas scored twice, with Leão and Maciel adding further goals for the hosts. UEFA cup semi-finalist Boavista FC beat CD Nacional by 1-0, with Luíz Cláudio on target to secure ninth place.

Duo down
At the other end of the table, CD Santa Clara and Varzim SC, both needing a win to have any chance of avoiding relegation, drew 2-2. Figueiredo gave Santa Clara the lead in the first half, before Vidigal equalised on the hour mark. Portela restored the hosts' advantage three minutes later, only for Paulo Vida to level matters at the death and send both clubs crashing from the top flight.

Joy for Moreirense 
Moreirense FC and SC Beira-Marboth won to remain in the first division. Moreirense beat FC Paços de Ferreira thanks to goals from Afonso Martins and Demétrios, while Fary scored the only goal for Beira-Mar against CS Marítimo. Elsewhere, relegated Vitória Setúbal drew 1-1 with CF Os Belenenses.
