Switzerland round-up: Grasshoppers on song

Members

Grasshopper-Club stayed on course for the First Division title with a 5-1 home defeat of FC Thun.

Scoring form
The First Division leaders, who thrashed Servette FC by a four-goal margin in their previous game, were in impressive form at the Hardturm stadium, scoring three times in the first half through a Richard Nunez penalty, Pascal Castillo and Roland Schwegler.

Consolation goal
Nunez and Castillo both struck again after the restart, before Yao Aziawonou grabbed a consolation goal for Thun who are bottom of the table in eighth place.

Home comfort
Grasshoppers remain three points clear of FC Basel who won 3-1 at home against FC Zürich. Julio Hernán Rossi, Scott Chipperfield and Christian Giménez were all on target for Christian Gross's team at Saint Jakob Park before Sergio Bastida replied late on for the visitors.

Disappointing defeat
Meanwhile, Neuchâtel Xamax FC, Basel's opponents in Sunday's Swiss Cup final, suffered a disappointing 3-1 home defeat by Servette FC. Despite scoring first through Alexander Rey, Xamax were punished by goals from Oscar Londono, Paolo Diogo and Mohammed Abdel Kader for the visitors.

Bouncing back
Elsewhere, BSC Young Boys contrived to throw away a three-goal lead and lose 4-3 at home against FC Wil 1900. Daniel Hasler, Davide Callà and Mauro Lustrinelli with two goals secured a memorable come-from-behind win for the second-bottom team at the Wankdorf stadium.
