SK Rapid Wien have restructured the managerial set-up at the club by appointing Peter Schöttel as their new director of sport.
'The right choice'
"We have talked to many candidates in the past weeks, but finally came to the conclusion that Peter Schöttel is the right choice for this job as he knows this club better than anybody else," said Rapid president Rudolf Edlinger.
Illustrious career
The 36-year-old Schöttel represented Rapid in 436 Austrian Bundesliga games from 1986 onwards, and took charge of the club's youth academy in 2001 when he finally decided to end his playing career.
Managerial partnership
Schöttel, who also featured for Austria during the FIFA World Cup finals of 1990 and 1998, is expected to form a close partnership with Rapid's financial director Werner Kuhn and coach Josef Hickersberger as Austria's most successful club seek to challenge newly-crowned champions FK Austria Wien next season.
