FK Austria Wien have confirmed that Christoph Daum will no longer be in charge of the club next season.

Austrian champions FK Austria Wien have confirmed that German coach Christoph Daum will no longer be in charge of the club next season.

'Several candidates'
"We are in talks with several candidates and [club owner] Frank Stronach will make a quick decision," said the club's vice-president Andreas Rudas. "At the beginning of next week we will present the new man."

Svetits departure

Despite winning the Austrian league for the first time since 1993 the club is in turmoil at present following the suspension of director of sport Peter Svetits earlier this week - a move that appears to have hastened Daum’s desire to leave Austria.

Suspension demand
Svetits, who joined the capital side in 2001 from Grazer AK, had demanded to be suspended from his contract after club owner Frank Stronach appointed Günther Kronsteiger as his personal advisor.

'I can't continue'
"I was used to deciding things on my own, but at Austria all decisions had to be made in full co-operation with Frank Stronach," Svetits said. "I believe that I couldn't get through to Frank with all my ideas lately. Things did not go well for some time and I can't continue my job in the way I'd like to."

Possible 'double'
Daum, who has won the Bundesliga title with VfB Stuttgart and the Turkish league with Besiktas JK, has the chance to end his spell in Austria by leading his side to the domestic 'double' if his team overcomes FC Kärnten in the cup final on 1 June.
