Brøndby on course for double

Members

Brøndby IF are in contention for the double after defeating FC Midtjylland in the Danish Cup final.

Brøndby IF secured their fourth Danish Cup with a 3-0 final victory against FC Midtjylland.

Headed opener
Brøndby were set on their way to victory, their first since 1998, by striker Kaspar Dalgas, who headed a cross from Swedish international forward Mathias Jonson into the net seven minutes before half-time.

Midtylland go close
Midtjylland, in their first final since being formed in 1999, pressed forward in the second period and twice hit the post, but Brøndby exploited the extra space to seal the victory with two late goals. Substitute Ruben Bagger made it 2-0 after 84 minutes, and the same player created the third for Mads Jørgensen on the stroke of full time.

Double chance
The win means that Brøndby are in contention to complete a league and cup double. With just four games of the season remaining, Michael Laudrup's side trail Superligaen leaders FC København by a single point. Should Brøndby secure the championship, Midtylland would qualify for next season's UEFA Cup.
