Pantelic strike seals it for Sartid

A spectacular golden goal from Marko Pantelic earned FK Sartid a shock 1-0 victory against FK Crvena Zvezda in the Serbo-Montenegrin Cup final in Belgrade on Thursday.

Trophyless season
The goal from the second-half substitute secured Sartid's first trophy since they were formed on 6 May 1924. It all made for an unhappy day for Crvena Zvezda, who were hoping to mark the 12th anniversary of lifting the European Champion Clubs' Cup by winning the competition. Instead, they lost for just the seventh time in 26 final appearances to end a season trophyless for the first time in five years.

Good chances
Crvena Zvezda dominated for long periods but missed several good chances. Midfield players Branko Boskovic and Dejan Milovanovic were both denied by Sartid's international goalkeeper Dragan Zilic, who was in superb form and later named man of the match.

Pantelic goal
Crvena Zevzda paid the price for their profligacy in extra time when the 24-year-old striker Pantelic, who had come off the bench in the 81st minute, curled a shot into the net, via the underside of the crossbar, from 18 metres.

Disappointed Filipovic
"I'm disappointed," said Crvena Zvezda coach Zoran Filipovic. "I haven't the words to describe today's match. We were the better team, but didn't take our chances and Sartid punished us. Favourites don't win every time and this is good for the game."

'We beat a great team'
Meanwhile an elated Sartid coach Milenko Kikovic declared: "It's history! We won! This is a great day for Sartid and our town Smederevo. We beat a great team in their city. We have a brave heart and cold head. Yes, we were also lucky, but you must be daring and deserve your fortune." Sartid, who only just avoided relegation from the top flight, will now join Crvena Zvezda in next season's UEFA Cup. In this season's competition Sartid were eliminated in the first round.
